United Methodist Women

Now is a great time to learn about UMW (United Methodist Women). We encourage fellowship and support the church functions. UMW is a wonderful way to get acquainted, help the missions and have fun at the same time. Membership is open to any woman in the church at no charge. Our purpose is mission! Please participate.

Friendship Circle meets teh third Tuesday of each month at noon.

Mary Margaret Circle meets the third Wednesday of each month at 10am.

Upcoming Events:

Ingathering Project for the 2011 Detroit District Meeting is "Sleep Tight, Sleep Safe".

Shelters and other social service agencies have expressed a need for new twin X-long sheet sets (flat sheet, fitted bottom sheet, pillow case). A collection container will be located in the narthex beginning in June. All donations need to be in by September 1st.

Some of our missions include:

Campbell Labels for Education: We save these for Red Bird Mission School in Kentucky.

Cancelled Stamps: These stamps are sent to missionary groups to be used for medication, education, hospitals, etc.

Lap robes (36"x42"), preemie hats, blankets and afghans (36"x36"): These are given to hospitals and veterans.

Past Events:

May 12, 2011: Unit Meeting at 6:30pm with potluck appetizers and dessert. Barb Hardt will share experiences from her mission trip to Haiti in February. Everyone is invited to attend. 2011 officers will be installed at the meeting. Potluck and dessert begins at 6:30pm with the program beginning at 7pm.

Thursday, October 14, 2010: Unit meeting at 6:30pm in the social hall. Bring a favorite appetizer or dessert to share. Kristin Koch will lead our Pledge Service.

Saturday, October 2, 2010: Annual Detroit East District UMW Meeting at Utica Methodist Church. Reservations can be made through Ellen Sutherland or by calling the church office at 248-399-3698 by September 20th. The guest speaker is Rev. Faith Green-Timmons.

Friday, September 24, 2010: We will be host to Church Women United at noon. The topic is "A Human Rights Celebration" with many interesting speakers. Tickets are $1.50 and available at the door. However, reservations are requested and can be made through Eileen Cohen or by calling the church office at 248-399-3698.

Thursday, September 9, 2010: Unit meeting at 6:30pm in the social hall. Bring a favorite appeitizer or dessert to share. Rev. David Huseltine will speak about his favorite mission.

Thursday, June 10, 2010: Annual UMW picnic at the home of Mary Carlson.

Sunday, May 16, 2010 after church will be the excutive committe meetings for May and June.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010: Unit Meeting at 12 noon in the social hall. Mary Margaret Circle will present a skit for the program.

Tuesday, May 12, 2009 our UMW Unit Meeting was held. The Mary Margaret Circle planned the program: Speaker Diane Lynn (member of our church) spoke on "Boy Scouting".

May 8-9, 2009: Spiritual Life Retreat at the Lake Huron Retreat Center.

Speaker was Rev. Tara Sutton.

Friday, May 7, 2010, 9:30am: Church Women United May Friendship Day at Clawson United Methodist Church. Please see Eileen Cohen if you are interested in attending.

Friday, May 1, 2009: Church Women United met for "May Friendship Day" at the Starr Presbyterian Church on Crooks Road at 13 Mile Road in Royal Oak. Collections that day went directly to the National Office for designated projects at home and around the world.

Wednesday, April 15, 2009: There was an Annual Interfaith luncheon at Our Lady of La Salette church in the Fr. Landry Parish Center. Entertainment was provided by Kerry Price. Free will donations went towards SOS and St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 12:30pm was our next general (unit) meeting. Friendship Circle presented the program after a short business meeting. Then there was a pot luck lunch and Faith Circle furnished coffee and tea.

Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 12:30pm was the "Mission Workshop" at the Troy Korean United Methodist Church. The program was "Israel and Palestine".

InGathering Project 2009: Caring Caps for Cancer Patients. Our UMW delivered 38 chemo caps to the Detroit East District Annual Meeting.
